Radio Frequency Engineer

Lipomo, CO, Italy

Involve Space is an italian aerospace startup developing stratospheric pseudo-satellite platforms designed to operate at the edge of space. Our technology uses high-altitude balloons of reaching up to 30-40 km to carry scientific payloads, Earth observations instruments, and telecommunications systems.

Our mission is "Getting you closer to space" by enabling cost-effective, scalable, and persistent high-altitude operations for industries such as infrastructing monitoring, disaster response, telecommunications, environmental monitoring and defense.

At the core of our technology are Stratostats®, reusable stratospheric platforms powered by advanced onboard systems and supported by our proprietary Neurostar® AI software, which enables autonomous navigation and station-keeping in the stratosphere.

We are looking for a Radio Frequency Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of RF communication systems for high-altitude platforms and payloads. In this role, you will work on the design, integration, and validation of telecommunications and data trasmission systems operating in extreme environments at the edge of space, supporting missions in Eartch observation, telecommunications testing, and aerospace research.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and develop RF communication systems for stratospheric platforms
  • Define and validate radio architectures for telemetry, command and payload communications
  • Design and test RF front-end components, antennas, amplifiers, and filters
  • Perform link budget analysis and RF performance simulations
  • Ability to troubleshoot devices and systems
  • Develop and test communication links between high-altitude platforms and ground stations
  • Integrate RF subsystems with onboard avionics and payload systems
  • Conduct lab testing, field testing, and flight validation
  • Ensure compliance with spectrum regulations and RF standards
  • Collaborate with aerospace, avionics, AI, and payload engineering teams
  • Support mission operations and troubleshooting of communication systems

  • Undertanding of antenna design and propagation models
  • Experience with RF measurement equipment
  • Experience with measuring devices (oscilloscope, function generator and multimeter)
  • Knowledge of communication protocols and modulation techniques
  • Ability to perform link budget calculations
  • Fluent in english

Nice to have

  • Experience with satellite communications or aerospace systems
  • Knowledge of SDR (Software Defined Radio), Amateur radio software and LoRa
  • Experience with LTE / 5G / IoT communications
  • Experience with embedded systems or avionics integration
  • Knowledge of high-altitude or space environments
